When we went to Jamaica last time, we found a direct flight into Kingston instead of the usual flight to Montego Bay. Getting to Ocho Rios took about 90 minutes and to be honest, we slept most of the way.
Whilst at first glance it seems they’re situated quite far apart, it’s actually pretty easy to get from one to the other, and depending on how you’ll be traveling, it shouldn’t take too long either.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at the best ways of traveling from Kingston to Ocho Rios.
Ask Your Resort How To Get From Kingston to Ocho Rios
Before anything else, check with your accommodations to see what they recommend. Sandals Resorts offer a free shuttle and since Kingston isn’t a popular airport to use it will often be a private transfer anyway.
Other resorts may have negotiated rates or have a recommended company that brings guests regularly.
Private Transfer
One option for getting from Kingston to Ocho Rios is by private transfer. This can be quite a pricey option, however, some companies allow you to pay per person. This is a great option for anyone traveling to Jamaica on a honeymoon or romantic getaway for a comfortable private experience.
With door-to-door transfer services, assistance with your luggage, and a selection of vehicles to choose from, it makes for a comfortable and laid-back experience without the stress of having to find your next hotel by yourself.
Some companies offer additional services, including optional sightseeing, child seats, and free bottled water, and some are even pet friendly.
To truly make the most of your vacation, consider turning your private transfer into a mini-tour. Your local driver is often happy to point out various interesting things to see along the way.
Taxi
Everyone’s been there – leaving something to the last minute! Well, let’s just say this is something you don’t want to do when trying to get from Kingston to Ocho Rios.
A charter taxi can end up costing you upwards of $100! So be sure to book in advance!
Knutsford Express (Bus)
The Knutsford Express’ typical route starts at the bus park in New Kingston and travels on to Montego Bay with a stop in Ocho Rios.
One great thing about this service is that you can purchase your ticket in advance, so there’s no disappointment when you arrive at the bus stop. Buses scheduled around the times of international flight arrivals tend to book up quickly, so make sure you plan ahead!
Local Buses
If you’ve been to Jamaica before and traveling light, then the local buses are an option to at least consider. This is not recommended to those who are new to the Island and therefore less familiar with it, or those traveling with heavy luggage.
Great for those backpackers amongst you, this option saves a considerable amount of money and gives you a sense of what life is like on the island for the locals. This journey can be quite time-consuming though, so you’ll want to be certain to do your research and plan ahead before setting off!
Airport Van
Perhaps this isn’t a multi-destination trip and instead, you’re looking simply to get from A to B. Departing from the airport, there are plenty of airport van options for you to book in advance, that can take you to your destination, no matter where on the island you’re trying to get to.
Airport vans are a great option for families, those traveling with disabilities, the elderly, or any extra luggage. They typically fit up to 5 people, as well as the luggage so are an excellent option to consider for a transfer to your hotel directly from the airport.
These vehicles all have air conditioning, and prices are inclusive of Toll charges, so there are no hidden costs when booking – All you need to do is sit back, relax, and watch the world go by until you arrive at your beautiful lodgings in Jamaica!
